March 7, 2010 DEVILS OVERCOME EARLY DEFICIT The Tri-Valley Midget 18 Tier II Team drove south to San Jose early Sunday morning to face the San Jose Midget 16 "AAA" club. In a hard fought and hard hitting contest the two teams tied at 3 - 3. San Jose came out strong with two goals in the first three minutes of the game. The Devils cut the deficit in half with a goal from Jake Commeau off a feed by defenseman Cameron Che. Tri-Valley then tied the game at 2 - 2 on a power play goal from Judah Gemmell on an assist from in back of the net by Nathan Pritchard. San Jose regained the lead with 12:33 left in the contest. Less than a minute later the Devils tied the game again on a rebound goal by Tyler Kruenegel. He was assisted on the play by Tyler Wentz and Jake Commeau. The remainder of the game was scoreless with each team getting good chances to take the lead. Gabe Elvin was in the net for Tri-Valley stopping 29 of 32 chances to get the tie. A rematch between these teams is scheduled for high noon next Sunday in Oakland. Saturday-Sunday, February 27-28, 2010 DEVILS REGROUP AND ADVANCE TO STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS The Tri-Valley Blue Devils Midget 18 Tier II Team traveled south to attend Playdown Weekend in Valencia. Eight Tier II Teams were competing to become the four qualifiers for the State Championship. Penalties and turnovers plagued Tri-Valley in their first two games and placed them at the brink of elimination. The Devils played their first game against the Orange County Hockey Club. Tri-Valley lost 6 - 0 and allowed the opposition four power play goals. Their second game on Saturday the Devils faced the California Heat. The Heat scored their second power play goal of the game with five seconds left to win 3 - 2. The Devil goals were scored by Craig Hanisch and Mike Melka with helpers given to Tyler Kruenegel; Nathan Pritchard; and Tyler Wentz. Facing being ousted from Playdown Weekend, Tri-Valley needed to win their next game just to make a crossover elimination game later in the day. Making matters worse the Devils had to face their bitter rivals from San Jose. Tri-Valley dominated the contest by winning 5 - 0 and outshooting their competition 37 - 14. San Jose was the team taking the penalties and the Devils took advantage with three power play scores. Tri-Valley was led by forward Tyler Wentz with two goals and an assist. Other goal scorers were Nathan Pritchard; Tyler Kruenegel; and Craig Hanisch. Two assists were given to Jake Commeau with one each to Craig Hanisch; Cameron Che; and Cody Murphy. Devil goaltender Ryan Corriveau got the victory with great support from Tri-Valley defensemen David Wu; Cameron Che; Andreas Rahm; Cody Murphy; Preston Kopecko; and D.J. Williams. In another must win situation with the winner moving on to the State Championships and the loser going home, Tri-Valley faced the Channel Island Riptide. In a hard fought battle the Devils won 4 - 2. Tri-Valley opened the scoring with a power play goal in the first period at 12:12 scored by Tyler Kruenegel with helpers going to Cody Murphy and Jake Commeau. Three minutes later the Riptide tied the score off a faceoff win deep in the Devil zone. Midway through the first frame Tri-Valley regained the lead with a goal from Jake Commeau and an assist to Tyler Wentz. Early in the second stanza Channel Island tied the score at 2 - 2 off a bad line change by the Devils. Late in the second period Tyler Kruenegel scored a short handed to regain the lead for Tri-Valley. Judah Gemmell was credited with an assist on the shorty. The third period was back and forth with the Devils protecting their slim lead. The Riptide pulled their goalie in an attempt to tie the score but an empty net goal by Tyler Wentz sealed the deal for Tri-Valley. Ryan Corriveau in net again earned the victory. The Devils now move on to the Midget 18 Tier II State Championships to be held on 3/19/10 - 3/21/10 at Ice Station Valencia. They will be competing against the California Wave; Orange County Hockey Club; and the Los Angeles Jr. Kings. Saturday-Sunday, February 6-7, 2010 DEVILS SWEEP LAST CAHA
WEEKEND
The Tri-Valley Blue Devils Midget 18 Tier II Team won three
games this weekend in Simi Valley to finish with a record of 6 - 0 - 3 and
second place in the final CAHA Standings. They will now move on to compete in
the CAHA Playdown Weekend in two weeks where it is win or go home. The forward
line of Tyler Kruenegel, Nathan Pritchard, and Craig Hanisch were dominant in
the three games played against SoCal competition.
In the first game against the Channel Island Riptide the Devils
won 8 - 3. Craig Hanisch had a hat trick and linemate Natahn Pritchard had a
goal and three assists and center Tyler Kruenegel chipped in with three
assists. Other goal scorers were Mike Melka, Cameron Che, David Wu, and
defenseman D.J. Williams added a short handed goal. Further assists went to
Tyler Wentz with two helpers and Tomo Minase, Andreas Rahm, and Tom Heppner.
Tri-Valley goalie Ryan Corriveau earned the victory for the Devils.
In the second game of the day the Tri-Valley Team played the Jr.
Reign. The Devils scored three goals in the first period to open a 3 - 0 lead.
Tyler Kruenegel scored two and Craig Hanisch scored the other. Assists went to
Nathan Pritchard with two and Tyler Kruenegel and Craig Hanisch added helpers.
However, the Jr. Reign scored a goal in the second stanza and one in the third
period to cut the lead to 3 - 2. With the Reign goaltender pulled for an extra
man at the end of the game Mike Melka scored an empty net goal off a nice feed
from Tyler Wentz to seal the victory for Tri-Valley. The Devils goalie Gabe
Elvin got the game decision with the win.
The last game was played early Sunday morning against the SoCal
Titans. The Devils won 3 - 2 thanks to a hat trick by forward Nathan
Pritchard. The first of his three goals came on a penalty shot in the first
period. Defenseman Preston Kopecko had an assist on Pritchard's second goal and
Tyler Wentz added a helper on Pritchard's third. Tri-Valley goaltender Ryan
Corriveau faced 22 shots to earn the win. Saturday-Sunday, December 19-20, 2009 BLUE DEVILS GO 1 - 3 - 0 IN 24 HOUR SOCAL TRIP
The Midget 18 Tier II Team traveled to SoCal to play four games against good "AA" competition on December 19th & 20th. There were four games scheduled in approximately a 24 hour period which was a challenging assignment.
On Saturday morning in Ontario Tri-Valley played against the Orange County Hockey Club. The only score in the first period was on a power play by OCHC near the end of the frame. The Devils tied the score in the second period on a slap shot by defenseman D.J .Williams with assists going to Eddie Mourad and Tomo Minase. At 11:37 of the third frame OCHC regained the lead at 2 - 1. The Blue Devils tied the score at 2 - 2 on a power play goal by Tyler Wentz at 3:41. However, OCHC score the winning goal on a power play at 1:02 of the third.
Saturday afternoon at Glacial Gardens in Lakewood Tri-Valley faced the LA Jr. Kings. In a hard fought battle the Devils beat the Kings by a score of 2 - 1. The Devils scored one goal in the first period on a breakaway by Nathan Pritchard off a nice feed by defenseman Cody Murphy. The Devils also scored one goal in the second frame on a power play by Craig Hanisch with helpers going to Nathan Pritchard and Tyler Wentz. The Jr. Kings scored a goal at 12:30 of the third to cut the Tri-Valley lead in half. LA had several good chances to tie the score in the third period but Blue Devil goaltender Ryan Corriveau was sharp in net to earn the victory.
Early Sunday morning in Yorba Linda the Blue Devils had a rematch with OCHC. The third game in a short time frame took its tool on the Devils. They looked sluggish and lost to OCHC 2 - 1 and managed only 10 shots on goal. OCHC scored two goals in the first period. Tri-Valley managed to score a power play goal at 12;30 of the third frame by Craig Hanisch with assists given to Nathan Pritchard and Michael Melka. The Devils had little energy left trying to tie the game.
In Panorama City on Sunday afternoon the Devils played their last game of the weekend against the California Heat. The Devils started the game well at 11:30 of the first frame with a goal from Tyler Wentz with an assist from linemate Judah Gemmell. However, two minutes later in the first period the Heat tied the score. The Heat then scored the next four goals three of which came on power play opportunities to take a 5 - 1 lead late in the second stanza. With thirty seconds left in the second period Tyler Wentz scored again to cut the Heat lead to 5 - 2 with helpers going to Andreas Rahm and Judah Gemmell. The Devils scored a goal early in the third frame by Michael Melka with assists given to Judah Gemmell and Cody Murphy. However, the Heat scored two more goals later in the third to make the final score 7 - 3. With four games in 24 hours the Sunday games were difficult on the boys bodies and it showed on the ice.

BLUE DEVILS GO 1-0-2 IN 2nd CAHA WEEKEND Tri-Valley stayed locally for their second CAHA event which was held in San Jose. With a win and two ties the Devils are in second place in the CAHA Midget 18 Tier II Standings. After this four point weekend, the Blue Devils have now clinched a spot for the Playdown Weekend to take place in Valencia, CA.
The first game of the weekend matched Tri-Valley against the California Heat. After a scoreless first period, the Heat took a 1 - 0 lead at 12:39 of the second period. Five minutes later, the Devils tied the sore on a goal by forward Judah Gemmell with assists to his linemates Tyler Wentz and Michael Melka. Early in the third period, Tri-Valley struck again on a goal from centerman Tomo Minase on an assist from Craig Hanisch for a 2 - 1 lead. However, the Heat tied the game on a power play at 12:10 of the third to even the score. The rest of the third period was scoreless with Tri-Valley goaltender Ryan Corriveau making repeated saves to keep the game a tie.
On Saturday the second game of the day pitted the Devils against the California Wave. This contest ended in a 1 - 1 tie. The only Tri-Valley goal came in the first frame from Eddie Mourad after a nice pass from Tom Heppner. Another assist on the play went to defenseman D.J. Williams. The game remained 1 - 0 until two minutes left in the game when the Wave were able to get a goal from in front of the Devil's net to tie the game. Ryan Corriveau of Tri-Valley earned the tie for the Blue Devils.
The last game of the weekend on Sunday afternoon was against the Devils major rival the San Jose Jr. Sharks. This was the seventh time these teams have played each other this year but the most important since it was a CAHA league game. San Jose tallied the first goal of the game at 10:13 of the first period. The Devils evened the score on a goal from forward Nathan Pritchard off a great pass on a two on one by Tyler Kruenegel. Cody Murphy also received an assist on the score. The only goal of the second frame went to the Jr. Sharks for a 2 - 1 advantage and was a power play goal midway through the period. Early in the third period Tyler Wentz tied the game at 2- 2 from in front of the net with assists going to Michael Melka and Judah Gemmell. Four minutes later the Blue Devils took the lead on a power play goal by Judah Gemmell with a nice in and out move to fake the Shark goaltender. Nathan Pritchard received an assist on the power play goal. Tri-Valley outshot their bitter foe 43 - 15 but could not get the puck passed the Shark goalie who kept his team in the game.
Friday-Sunday, November 27-29, 2009 DISAPPOINTING SILVER STICKS FOR BLUE DEVILS The Tri-Valley Midget 18 "AA" Team traveled to Las Vegas over the Thanksgiving weekend to participate in the Silver Sticks Tier II Regional with the hopes of winning the tournament and moving on to Sarnia, Ontario, Canada for the Silver Sticks finals. The Devils compiled a 1 - 2 - 1 record and did not advance in the tournament. A lack of scoring punch; penalties; and bad luck haunted the team from the beginning.
Tri-Valley's first game was against the Orange County Hockey Club. The Devils were winning the game 2- 1 but with two minutes left OCHC managed to tie the score. OCHC opened the scoring in the first period but halfway through the first Tri-Valley tied the game with a goal from Judah Gemmell who was assisted by forward Craig Hanisch and defenseman Cody Murphy. The Devils took the lead with a shorthanded goal early in the second frame by Nathan Pritchard off a nice feed from Tyler Wentz. The game remained a defensive struggle until OCHC tied the game at the end. Ryan Corriveau earned the tie for the Devils.
The second game of the tournament the Blue Devils faced the California Wave and lost 2 - 0. While the team played well against the Wave at even strength, Tri-Valley took eleven penalties most of which after the California team took the lead and made the task of mounting a comeback that much more difficult.
Next on the tournament schedule for the Devils came the FAHA Knights from Fairbanks, Alaska. Tri-Valley dominated the game outshooting the Alaska team 44 - 11 but still took the frustrating 2 - 0 loss. The Devils were just unable to put the puck past the Fairbanks netminder even though they were given seven power play opportunities. Tri-Valley centerman Tyler Wentz hit three posts during the course of the game which just added to the team's frustration level.
The Blue Devils last game was against the DYHA Firebirds from Phoenix. Tri-Valley broke out of their scoring slump in a big way with an 8 - 4 victory. The team was led by Tyler Wentz who had a hat trick plus a playmaker in the contest and his linemate Judah Gemmell added two goals as well. Other Tri-Valley goals came from Eddie Mourad on the power play and defenseman David Wu and forward Tyler Kruenegel. Assists in the game went to Michael Melka and Nathan Pritchard with two each and single helpers went to defenseman Cody Murphy; Tyler Kruenegel; Tomo Minase; Preston Kopecko; and Andreas Rahm. Blue Devils goaltender Gabe Elvin returned to action after a stay in the hospital to earn the victory.
Next up for the Devils is a CAHA weekend in San Jose starting Saturday, December 5th.
Sunday, November 22, 2009 DEVILS OVERPOWER JR. SHARKS On Sunday at high noon the San Jose Midget 16 Tier II Team traveled north to Oakland to take on the Tri-Valley Midget 18 Tier II Team. The Devils crushed the younger Jr. Sharks by a score of 8-2 and outshot them 38-14. Tyler Wentz led the goal parade with a hat trick plus forwards Tomo Minase and Tyler Kruenegel each chipped in with two goals each. Tri-Valley goalkeeper Ryan Corriveau earned the victory for the Devils. The first period started with an early power play goal by Tri-Valley centerman Tyler Wentz with an assist to defenseman Cody Murphy. The Devils added another goal at 8:11 of the first frame by forward Craig Hanisch assisted by Nathan Pritchard. However, the San Jose team scored the next two goals on the power play to even the score at 2-2. With seconds remaining in the period, Tyler Wentz scored his second goal assisted by Craig Hanisch and Nathan Pritchard to regain the lead. The second period was scoreless with the Devils holding a big advantage in play. The third stanza was all Blue Devils with five unanswered goals scored in the period. The first goal was scored at 14:27 by Tomo Minase with a helper to Mike Melka. The next two goals were scored by Tri-Valley winger Tyler Kruenegel at 9:41 and 6:58 of the third frame. He was assisted by Eddie Mourad on the first goal and Tom Heppner and Andreas Rahm on the second. The fourth goal of the period to complete his hat trick was scored by Tyler Wentz with another assist by Cody Murphy. Tri-Valley completed the scoring late in the third with another score from Tomo Minase with another helper from Mike Melka. The Tri-Valley team now travels to Las Vegas, NV. to compete in the Silver Sticks Tier II Regional Tournament. Saturday, November 14, 2009 MIDGET 18 "A" SURPRISES MIDGET 18 "AA" Both Tri-Valley Midget 18 Teams met in battle on Saturday evening in Oakland. The Devils 18 "A" squad edged the Devils 18 "AA" by the score of 2-1 even though they were outshot 34-14. The game was scoreless after two periods. Then in the third period the Tri-Valley 18 "A" club scored two quick goals, one at 12:15 and the other at 11:34, to take a 2-0 lead. The Tier II team finally scored at 9:09 of the third period on a power play. Defenseman Cody Murphy passed the puck to forward Tyler Wentz who skated in from the blue line to the net and put a backhander past the 18 "A" goaltender to cut the deficit in half. The "AA" team put tremendous pressure on the "A" team late in the third period in an effort to tie the score but the Devils Midget 18 "A" net minder, Sam Bouwens, was stellar in net to preserve the victory. Sunday, November 8, 2009 TRI-VALLEY LATE GOALS BEAT SAN JOSE MIDGET 16 "AA" The Blue Devils drove down to San Jose to take on the San Jose Midget 16 Tier II Team. Tri-Valley eventually wore down the younger Sharks and earned a 4-1 victory. The Devils opened the scoring in the first period at 5:32 when Tyler Kruenegel made a long pass to Tyler Wentz who tipped the puck deep into the offensive zone. Winger Michael Melka raced for the puck and passed it back to centerman Wentz who took a wrist shot that bounced off the post and into the back of the San Jose net. Midway through the middle period San Jose scored on a power play to tie the game at 1-1. Less than three minutes later Judah Gemmell with a crowd in front of the net shot the puck passed a screened Shark goaltender for the game winning goal. He was assisted on the play by winger Nathan Pritchard and defenseman Preston Kopecko. Tyler Wentz at 9:57 of the third period made the score 3-1. His linemates Michael Melka and Tyler Kruengel who received assists on the goal put great pressure on the San Jose netminder taking shots that left rebounds on which Wentz was able to jam one of the rebounds into the back of the net. The last Tri-Valley goal was on a power play at 1:34 of the final period scored by Natahn Pritchard and assisted by Craig Hanisch and Tyler Kruenegel. Devils' goalie Gabe Elvin saved 14 of the 15 Shark shots he faced to earn the victory. Saturday, November 7, 2009 DEVILS LATE THIRD PERIOD GOAL TIES SANTA ROSE The Santa Rosa Flyers Midget 18 "A" Team traveled to Oakland and stepped up a division to take on the Tri-Valley Midget 18 Tier II Team. Only a late Tri-Valley goal at 3:06 of the third period by Eddie Mourad and assisted by Tomo Minase salvaged a tie for the Blue Devils. Santa Rosa had a good defensive game plan that stymied the Devils offensive attack most of the contest. Tri-Valley put 22 shots on the Flyer goaltender who played a good game in net. The Flyers scored first at 5:30 of the opening period on a fluke goal. Tri-Valley goalie Ryan Corriveau stopped the remaining 13 Santa Rosa shots he faced to earn the tie for the Devils. Saturday-Sunday, October 24-25, 2009 BLUE DEVILS GO 2 - 0 - 1 IN FIRST CAHA EVENT The Tri-Valley Midget 18 "AA" Team took their first step in the process of returning to the National Championship Tournament. They traveled to Valencia to play the first three of nine regular season CAHA games. Facing some stiff competition they forged two wins and a tie against some of the best SoCal has to offer. Superb goaltending by the Devil net-minders helped in the Tri-Valley effort.
In the first game early Saturday morning, the Blue Devils faced the favored Orange County Hockey Club. OCHC scored the first goal at 14:50 of the second period. About a minute later while on a power play, Tri-Valley's Tyler Kruenegel received a pass from Cody Murphy and took a shot from near the blue line that eluded to OCHC goaltender to tie the score. The rest of the second period and most of the third period went scoreless. Then at 6:17 of the third period with the Blue Devils killing a penalty, Tri-Valley defenseman Cody Murphy picked up a loose puck at his blue line and skated down the near boards and sent a cannon slap shot passed the OCHC net-minder for an unassisted goal to win the game for the Devils. Goaltender Gabe Elvin earned the victory by stopping 19 of 20 shots.
In the second game on Saturday, the Tri-Valley Team faced the favored LA Jr. Kings who had not played earlier in the day. The Blue Devils, having played earlier, had a difficult time keeping up with the Kings quickness and were out-shot by a wide margin. The Jr. Kings scored first on a power play at 9:51 of the second period. However, the Devils never quit and continued to play hard. They tied the score at 1-1 at 11:21 of the third period on a power play goal from in front of the net by Craig Hanisch. He was assisted by Tyler Kruenegel and Cody Murphy. Later in the third period at 6:35, centerman Tomo Minase gave Tri-Valley the lead at 2-1 with an unassisted goal. However, the Jr. Kings tied the score with just 44 seconds remaining in the game. Blue Devils' goalie Ryan Corriveau kept the team in the game by stopping 33 of 35 shots.
The last CAHA game was played Sunday morning against the Beach City Lightning. The Devils out shot Beach City 41-20. However, it was not until late in the first period at 2:36 when Tri-Valley scored its first goal of the game. Tyler Wentz fed a pass from down low to defenseman Cody Murphy who sent a rifle shot passed the Beach City goalie into the back of the net. Also assisting on the play was Cameron Che. But Beach City tied the score early in the second frame. Late in the second stanza Judah Gemmell scored on a power play with assists going to Tyler Kruenegel and Cody Murphy. Then with less than a second to go in the second frame the Devils scored on another power play goal by Michael Melka from a nice feed in front from Cody Murphy. Tyler Wentz also received an assist on the power play goal. The third frame was scoreless with Tri-Valley limiting the Beach City opportunities. Devil goaltender Ryan Corriveu earned the victory with a nice effort in net.
Sunday, October 18, 2009 DEVILS COMPLETE WEEKEND SWEEP OF Jr. SHARKS Sunday afternoon in San Jose the Tri-Valley Midget 18 "AA" Team beat the San Jose Midget 18 Tier II Team 3-1 to complete the weekend sweep of the Jr. Sharks. At 11:11 of the first period, Devils' winger Tyler Kruenegel dumped the puck in the offensive zone for a line change. The San Jose goaltender went to play the puck but it caromed weirdly off the side boards and went into the Shark net for a Tri-Valley goal. Kruenegel was assisted on this lucky goal by center Tyler Wentz. The period ended with the Devils leading 1 - 0.
The lead lasted until 4:45 left in the second frame when San Jose tied the score. At 12:30 of the third period Tri-Valley regained the lead when Devils' defenseman D.J. Williams took a shot from the slot that was stopped by the San Jose goalie but he left a rebound that was put into the Shark net by forward Nathan Pritchard. Later in the period at 5:31 Tri-Valley scored a power play goal by center Judah Gemmell. He was assisted by Tyler Wentz and Tyler Kruenegel.
Tri-Valley goaltender Ryan Corriveau played a strong game and earned the victory. He faced 28 shots and stopped several breakaway chances by the Jr. Sharks.
The Midget 18 Tier II Team is on its way to Valencia this weekend to participate in the first CAHA event of the year in an attempt to get back to Nationals.
Saturday, October 17, 2009 THIRD PERIOD GOAL LIFTS DEVILS Saturday morning the Tri-Valley Midget 18 Tier II Team traveled south to San Jose to play their sixth game against the San Jose Jr. Sharks Midget 18 Tier II Team. Entering Saturday's contest, the Devils have won four out of the five games played. At 10:50 of the third period, Tri-Valley forward Craig Hanisch scored the only goal of the game on a wrist shot with a primary assist on an off the side boards pass by Tyler Wentz and a secondary assist by defenseman Cody Murphy. Devil goaltender Gabe Elvin stopped all 24 shots he faced. The game was a good defensive battle with both teams limiting the opposition to few shots on goal. The Tri-Valley defensemen: Cody Murphy, Preston Kopecko, David Wu, Cameron Che, D.J. Williams, and Andreas Rahm along with goalkeeper Elvin helped keep the San Jose shots from entering the Tri-Valley net. Sunday, October 11, 2009 SHARKS FINALLY TRIP UP DEVILS After four unsuccessful attempts,the San Jose Midget 18 Tier II Team defeated the Tri-Valley Midget 18 "AA" Team 3-2 in Oakland on Sunday. A Shark goal late in the second period decided a close, hard-fought game between the two squads. The Devils had many scoring opportunities including being handed eight power play chances, some with two-man advantages. However, they were not able to put the puck into the back of the San Jose net. Tri-Valley goalie Ryan Corriveau took the frustrating loss.
The Devils tallied first with a goal by forward Craig Hanisch from in front of the net at 1:14 of the first period, assisted by Nathan Pritchard and Tyler Wentz. But 19 seconds later the Sharks evened the score at 1-1. San Jose regained the lead at 4:56 of the second, but the Devils evened the game at 2-2 with a goal by Nathan Pritchard assisted by D.J. Williams. A little more than one minute later the Sharks scored the winning goal to make the final score 3-2.
The Devils tried hard in the third period, out-shooting the Sharks 12 -5 in the frame, but could not get the biscuit passed the San Jose net minder. Saturday, October 10, 2009THIRD PERIOD PROPELS DEVILS
Early Saturday morning in San Jose, the visiting Blue Devils Midget 18 Tier II Team played the San Jose Jr. Sharks Midget 18 "AA" to a standstill after two periods. With the score tied at 3-3 and being out-shot by San Jose after the first two stanzas, the Tri-Valley team awoke and stormed the home team by out-shooting San Jose 20-4 and scoring four goals in the third period. The Devils scored the last five goals of the game to make the final score 7-3. Tri-Valley goalie Gabe Elvin earned the victory.

Forward Nathan Pritchard scored on a breakaway off a face-off pass from center Tyler Wentz at 13:25, and the Devils scored on a power play at 5:47 of the first period on a tip-in by Craig Hanisch from defenseman Cody Murphy. Also assisting on the goal was Tyler Kruenegel. However, San Jose countered with two goals at the end of the first frame to tie the score at 2-2. In the second period, the Sharks took the lead 3-2 at 11:01 of the frame. Later in the second period with Tri-Valley killing a penalty, Tyler Kruenegel made a nice chip pass off the boards to the neutral zone that was picked up by Tyler Wentz. The Devils penalty killer went one on one with the San Jose defenseman and rifled a slap shot from the top of the face-off circle past the Shark goaltender for a short-handed goal to tie the score at 1:17 of the period. At this point, the Devils took over the game by scoring four unanswered goals in the third stanza. At 12:40 of the third, Nathan Pritchard scored his second goal with assists from Tyler Wentz and Craig Hanisch. A Tri-Valley power play goal followed at 9:02 scored by defenseman D.J. Williams assisted from Judah Gemmell. Then at 3:33 of the third frame, Nathan Pritchard completed his hat trick by scoring his third goal with another assist from Tyler Wentz who completed his playmaker. Just 27 seconds later defenseman Cody Murphy powered a slap shot past the San Jose net minder for an unassisted goal to complete the scoring for the Devils. Sunday, September 27, 2009
DEVILS BLANK Jr. SHARKS Sunday morning in San Jose the Tri-Valley Midget 18 "AA" Team outplayed the San Jose Midget 18 "AA" Team by a score of 5-0. A good defensive effort by the Devils kept the Jr. Sharks off the scoreboard. The Devils out-shot the Sharks 53 to 17 in the contest. Both Tri-Valley goalies, Gabe Elvin and Ryan Corriveau, stopped all shots they faced with Elvin earning the victory. Only a fine performance by the San Jose goalie kept the score close.
Tri-Valley opened the scoring with a power play goal by center Tyler Wentz at 3:05 of the first period. His line mates Nathan Pritchard and Craig Hanisch received assists on the play. The game remained 1-0 until 8:18 of the second period when forward Nathan Pritchard fed a nice pass in front of the net to defenseman Cameron Che who scored to make it 2-0. The Devils scored three goals in the final period with the first goal at 9:37. Eddie Mourad scored from in front of the net after enormous pressure was placed on the San Jose goalie with repeated shots from the Devils forwards. He was assisted on the goal by Judah Gemmell. The second goal of the last period came at 7:17 when Tomo Minase scored off a rebound with assists from Tyler Kruenegal and Michael Melka. The final goal was a 5-on-3 power play goal at 1:36 from defenseman D.J. Williams when his one-timer from the blue line found the back of the net off a pass from Tyler Wentz. Sunday, September 20, 2009 DEVILS EDGE Jr. SHARKS In a penalty filled contest the Tri-Valley Midget 18 Tier II Team beat the San Jose Midget 18 "AA" Team 4 - 3 Sunday in San Jose. A power play goal late in the second period was the difference in the game. At 0.33 left in the second period Craig Hanisch jammed in a rebound for the winning goal. He was assisted on the power by Cody Murphy and Tyler Wentz.
San Jose started the scoring in the first period at 6:39 with a 5 on 3 power play goal. The Devils evened the score at 11:33 of the second period on a breakaway goal by Nathan Pritchard on a nice feed from Tom Heppner. San Jose quickly regained the lead at 2 - 1 with a goal at 11:11 of the second period. Tri-Valley tied the score again when the San Jose goalie left the net and defenseman Cameron Che found an empty net and scored at 10:09 of the second period. Another power play goal by San Jose at 8:00 let in the second stanza gave them a lead again at 3 - 2. Less than a minute later Devil's defenseman Cody Murphy went coast to coast on a feed from Preston Kopecko to once again tie the score at 3 -3.
The third period was scoreless with power play chances for both teams. Tri-Valley goalie Gabe Elvin who entered the game midway in the second period was able to keep the puck out of the net in the third frame facing eight shots on goal for the victory. |
